Eater Washington DC: D.C.’s Hottest Bars, September 2018

More often than not, tipsters, readers, friends and family of Eater have one question: Where should I drink right now? While the Eater 38 is a crucial resource covering essential restaurants across the city, and the Eater Heatmap highlights where food lovers are flocking to at the moment, neither of these properly reflect the bars locals are patronizing right now.

Rather than feature the perennial favorites — though drinkers can find those here — this map focuses on new arrivals or places that have made significant changes. Come fall, D.C.’s bar scene will ramp up with Eaton DC’s anticipated speakeasy Allegory and airy rooftop taco-and-tequila destination dubbed Wild Days; Jack Rose’s new Imperial bar; and the rooftop addition to Logan Circle’s Players Club, to name a few.

1. Jinya Ramen Bar

Bethesda’s newest scene-y spot, complete with an outdoor patio centered around a fire pit, debuted this summer in the expanding Pike & Rose complex. The Los Angeles-based ramen chain’s first outpost in Maryland makes whiskey highballs with a rare Suntory Toki machine housed behind the sleek bar, which is also stocked with Japanese beers, sake, wine, and local beers like Ellicott City’s Manor Hill Brewing. Japanese-inspired cocktails include the Garden of Todai with tequila-infused matcha basil and rose water.
